Shepherd’s Rest Program

At Lutherwood, we recognize the challenges professional ministry workers face. From long days to taxing, exhaustive job requirements, burnout can be a real threat. Lutherwood wants to help with our Shepherd’s Rest Program. Every professional ministry worker in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America or Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and their family is welcome to come to Lutherwood for a FREE two-night stay in either our Spirit Lodge or campground. Our hope is this can be an invitation to come and rejuvenate on the shores of Lake Samish while you experience GRACE in creation!

You can make a request for A Shepherd’s rest by reaching out to our Executive Director, Pr. Kevin Beebe, at kevin.beebe@camplutherwood.org or by calling our office 360-734-7652!

FAQs

  • The Shepherd's Rest Program is for professional ministry workers in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

  • "Professional ministry worker" is intentionally vague. We want to honor that there are workers in our various ministry sites that are often overlooked if they aren't ordained.

For us, professional ministry worker includes rostered pastors, deacons, and lay leaders in professional ministry roles (youth directors, worship directors, etc).

  • For the time being, this program is only for leaders from our sponsoring denominations.

  • Every professional ministry worker is invited for two nights per calendar year.

Individuals and their families are welcome whenever there is availability in our schedule and it doesn't conflict with other rental groups or child safety needs.

  • We are offering two options:

    1) Upper Spirit Lodge. Upper Spirit has a lofted bed area with a double bed, living room with gas fireplace, a full kitchen, a full bathroom, and a balcony overlooking the lake. Upper Spirit can sleep 4, with the sofa bed.

    2) A space in our campground. Our campground has water (March-October) and 30-amp electric hookups. Each site can accommodate RVs and/or tents, and come with a picnic table and fire ring. Bathroom facilities are located at our main bathhouse.

  • Upper Spirit has a full kitchen available, and those in the campground are encouraged to bring their own supplies.

Alternatively, head in to either Bellingham or the Skagit Valley for fantastic restaurant options!

  • There is so much to do while at Lutherwood. Enjoy the serenity of Lake Samish from our swim area or head for a hike up into the Chuckanut mountains. Bring a mountain bike and explore the trails. We also rent our small, non-motorized boats for $10/hr (lifejackets included).

Jump in the car for a short drive to Larrabee State Park, the Puget Sound, Bellingham, Edison, Chuckanut Drive, or even up to British Columbia!

  • YES! We want to honor our colleagues in ministry with this special gift.

We will gladly accept donations to support the greater mission of Lutherwood Camp and Retreat Center if you feel so inclined.
